The Transition Year Programme provides an opportunity for students to develop an awareness of the value of education and training in preparing them for the ever-changing demands of society. Students participate in learning strategies which are active and experiential and which help them to develop a range of transferable critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
Transition Year is not part of the Leaving Certificate programme. The programme content for Transition Year, is chosen largely with a view to augmenting the Leaving Certificate experience, laying a solid foundation for Leaving Certificate studies, giving an orientation to the world of work and, in particular, catering for the pupils’ personal and social awareness/development.
